#6 Is Cost the Only Thing to Think About When Choosing Short-Term Therapy?

Short-term psychodynamic therapy isn’t just about doing therapy more quickly. It usually involves working in a more focused and emotionally engaged way. Sessions often centre on a specific difficulty and on patterns that show up in your feelings, relationships, or reactions in the room. This can be helpful—but it can also feel intense.

Because of this, it’s important to think about fit, not just price. Some people find that a time-limited approach gives them momentum and helps them make changes they’ve been stuck with for years. Others may feel that having an end date in mind brings pressure, or that they need more time to feel safe enough to open things up.

There’s also the experience of ending to consider. Short-term therapy means holding the ending in mind from early on. For some, this is motivating. For others, it can stir up feelings around loss, attachment, or feeling rushed. These emotional factors matter just as much as the financial ones.

If this resonates, you’re welcome to get in touch to explore whether short-term or open-ended therapy might be the right fit for you.
